The trial: Lennig v. CRST, et al.

 

The attorney: Brian Panish

 

Case summary: Matthew and Michael Lennig were injured in a head-on collision with a semi-truck helmed by a CRST driver. The trucking firm admitted the driver’s negligence but disputed the severity of the brothers’ claimed injuries, including the traumatic brain injury Michael Lennig claimed rendered him unable to perform his former duties as a motorcycle police officer. 

 

The witness: Michael Lennig

 

Synopsis: Panish questions Lennig on his impressions at the accident scene, as well as the mental and physical fallout from the collision. Lennig details the PTSD he suffers, his memory problems from his traumatic brain injury, and how they affect his time with his wife and son. Throughout the testimony, Panish shows photos of the family on fishing trips and other outings in which Lennig says he can no longer participate.  Lennig becomes emotional multiple times during the testimony, particularly when discussing his relationship with his son. 

 

The verdict: $52.84 million total verdict, including $19.24 million to Michael Lennig.
